As we've said often on this site, much of the help we provide is for animals we never see or touch. Most times we can't even get a picture, but we do get the satisfaction of knowing that we have helped. When we can get pictures, we will post them here, along with their stories, for you to enjoy as well. This is Mira (which stands for Miracle), a baby kinkajous who was rejected by her mother from the moment she was born. Her owner, Danielle Welker got our number from somebody as people who know how to hand raise kinkajous and she called. We've given her the formula that we use for ours, though we have not done one quite this young and Mira is doing quite well. We are keeping in touch with Danielle for both moral support (and goodness knows that we know how important moral support can be when you are doing this) as well as questions along the way. Danielle is doing a fantastic job with her, as you can see by how well she's growing! We hope to be able to keep in touch with this little darling, though we know we will probably never have the honor of meeting her in person. UPDATE: At 12 days, Mira weigh 6.5 ounces and is 6.5 inches long. Danielle would like to thank all of you who are pulling for she and Mira! Danielle is doing such a fantastic job with this baby! February 27, 2006, Mira is up to 8.5 ounces and 8.5 inches and doing great March 14, 2006, Mira is now 13.9 ounces and 10 inches long. She has started using her tail to grip things and is doing GREAT October 21, 2006, Mira is all grown up now. She's 3 pounds, 8 ounces, 15 inches long with a 30 inch long tail! Here is the message we received from Mira's mom today: Mira is doing great, you would never know that she was hand reared from the get go. This is as far as her health goes. She is so healthy growing storng. She is friendly as can be and very people dependant. It is really hard for me to believe she will be a year soon. Here are her latest stats: Weight: 3 pounds 8 ounces Length from head to rump 15 inches with her tail 30 inches Very healthy eater who loves green melon! She eats her omnivore biscuits like a good little girl. She loves her out time to play with my children and my Golden Retriever. And still likes to take long naps in mommy's shirt. All in all Mira is doing great and I know life would not be the same without her. I would never be able to thank you enough for the way you coached me through everything with her. I feel like I could never repay you. I know that Mira would not have made it without everything you did to guide me. Thank you so much. Please know that I hope to keep you updated as often as I can on Mira.
